About the role
Job Title: Security Officer
Location: Probation Centre
Reports To: Security Supervisor / Site Manager
Job Purpose
To maintain a safe, secure, and controlled environment within the probation centre, ensuring the safety of staff, visitors and service users while protecting property and maintaining order.
Key Responsibilities
Access Control
- Monitor and control entry and exit to the building
- Verify identification and appointments
- Conduct searches in line with policy
- Prevent unauthorised access
Monitoring & Surveillance
- Operate and monitor CCTV systems
- Patrol internal and external areas
- Observe waiting areas for signs of tension or risk
- Identify and report suspicious activity
Incident Management
- Respond promptly to alarms and emergencies
- De-escalate aggressive or confrontational situations
- Liaise with police or emergency services when required
- Complete detailed incident reports
Health & Safety
- Support fire evacuation procedures
- Ensure emergency exits are clear
- Conduct routine safety checks
Safeguarding
- Maintain professional boundaries
- Report safeguarding concerns immediately
- Support staff during high-risk appointments
Skills & Requirements
- Valid SIA Licence (Door Supervisor or Security Guard)
- Strong communication and conflict management skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Good report writing skills
- Understanding of safeguarding principles
Working Conditions
- May involve dealing with challenging behaviour
- Shift work may be required
- High level of vigilance and professionalism expected
