Job Description

As a Retail Escort Assistant with Sodexo at Colchester MOD, Merville Barracks, Circular Road South, Colchester, Essex, CO2 7UT.

You’ll play an important role in supporting our services on a Ministry of Defence (MOD) site. You’ll provide a friendly, professional service to our customers while supporting the smooth running of the Centre, Café, Shop and wider site operations.

From assisting customers and managing stock to supporting deliveries, operating retail outlets and helping with site security procedures, no two days will necessarily be the same.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Service: Provide a friendly, professional and helpful service to all customers, building positive relationships and ensuring a high standard of customer satisfaction.
• Retail & Café Support: Support the day-to-day operation of the Café and Shop, ensuring customer-facing areas are clean, well stocked, correctly merchandised and presented to a high standard.
• Stock Management: Take responsibility for the security and appropriate handling of stock within the Café and Shop areas.
• Site Support & Escorts: Escort deliveries and personnel to units across the site when required, ensuring all relevant site security procedures are followed.
• Driving: Drive the Company vehicle when required, in line with Sodexo SEMS rules and guidelines.
• Security: Ensure escorted personnel remain within line of sight at all times and are not left unattended unless appropriately authorised.
• Cash Handling: Handle and safeguard cash in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Opening & Closing: Open and close local retail outlets when required, including taking responsibility for key holding.
• Teamwork: Support colleagues across all areas of the Centre and provide cover to other units when required.
• Compliance: Follow all Sodexo policies, procedures, site rules and relevant legislation, including Health & Safety, Food Safety and COSHH requirements.
• Presentation & Hygiene: Maintain excellent personal hygiene, wear the appropriate uniform and PPE, and ensure all work and customer-facing areas remain clean, tidy and presentable.
• Service Standards: Help maintain Sodexo’s brand standards and contribute to achieving high levels of service, customer satisfaction and operational performance.
• Continuous Development: Take responsibility for developing your skills and knowledge, attending required training, team briefings and performance development reviews.
• Flexibility: Carry out other reasonable duties and tasks as required by management and be flexible to support the wider business

Essential

• A full UK driving licence.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and use your own initiative, while also being a strong team player.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures and maintain high standards.
• A positive, professional and customer-focused approach.
• The flexibility to support different areas of the operation when required.

Desirable

• Previous experience in a retail, hospitality, customer service or similar operational role.
• Experience of working within a military or MOD environment.
• Knowledge or qualifications in Health & Safety and/or Food Safety.
