Casual PAT tester

York - Casual

We’re looking for an experienced PAT Tester to join our team on a casual, zero-hours basis, supporting our site when additional testing resource is required.

This is a hands-on technical role where you’ll inspect, test and record portable electrical equipment across a busy operational site, helping ensure appliances remain safe to use and compliant with relevant electrical safety requirements.

As this is a casual position, there are no guaranteed weekly hours. Shifts will be offered according to business and operational requirements, making this a great opportunity for someone looking for flexible work alongside other commitments.

What you'll do

  • Carry out visual inspections and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) using approved testing equipment.
  • Follow the site PAT testing programme, prioritising equipment according to risk, testing dates and operational requirements.
  • Accurately record appliance details, test results, defects and actions taken.
  • Apply appropriate pass/fail labels and maintain accurate asset information.
  • Identify unsafe or failed equipment and immediately remove it from service where required.
  • Carry out minor repairs, such as replacing plugs or fuses, where safe, authorised and within your competence.
  • Re-test equipment following minor repairs before returning it to service.
  • Escalate equipment requiring specialist electrical repair or further investigation.
  • Ensure PAT testing equipment remains safe, serviceable and within calibration dates.
  • Work safely across operational, office, catering and support areas.
  • Coordinate with colleagues and site teams to access equipment while minimising disruption to operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide updates on completed and outstanding testing.
  • Follow all relevant health & safety procedures, risk assessments, safe systems of work and site requirements.

What you'll bring

  • Previous experience carrying out PAT testing within a commercial or operational environment.
  • A recognised PAT Testing qualification or certification.
  • Previous experience working as an Electrician, with relevant and current certifications/licences.
  • Current 18th Edition qualification.
  • NVQ Level 2 in an Electrical Discipline, or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Good knowledge of electrical safety, testing equipment and safe testing methods.
  • The ability to identify electrical hazards and determine when equipment should be removed from service.
  • Confidence carrying out minor electrical repairs within your level of competence.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and safely across a busy operational site.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, as shifts will be offered according to business requirements.
