At King’s College Hospital, we are seeking an experienced and dynamic Maintenance Manager to lead the delivery of critical engineering and building services across one of the UK's busiest and most complex healthcare environments. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled facilities professional to take ownership of maintenance operations, statutory compliance, energy management, and team leadership within a prestigious PFI hospital estate. Working closely with senior stakeholders, the NHS Trust, and Sodexo leadership teams, you will play a key role in ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant environment that directly supports outstanding patient care and operational excellence.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the operational management of engineering and building services across a complex hospital estate, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant service delivery.
  • Manage and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team and specialist contractors, driving high performance and service excellence.
  • Oversee the delivery of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance services, ensuring full contractual and statutory compliance.
  • Act as the key point of contact for the NHS Trust, building strong stakeholder relationships and ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  • Hold responsibility for Authorised Person (AP) duties and the management of the Permit to Work system and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Support the commercial performance of the contract through effective management of KPIs, performance monitoring, compliance, and operational budgets.
  • Lead lifecycle, small works, and engineering projects, working closely with project teams to ensure works are delivered to agreed standards and specifications.
  • Drive energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives, ensuring plant and equipment operate at optimum performance whilst identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

What You Bring:

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline, supported by extensive practical experience within a complex operational environment.
  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering, maintenance, and specialist contractor teams, with a strong focus on performance, compliance, and service delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build effective relationships across all levels, including senior leadership, NHS stakeholders, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building services engineering, statutory compliance, HTM requirements, and safe systems of work, ideally within a healthcare or critical environment.
  • Experience of energy management, sustainability initiatives, and operational efficiency programmes, with the ability to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, capable of interpreting complex technical information, assessing risks, and making sound operational decisions in a fast paced environment.
