At Sodexo Health & Care, our people play a critical role in supporting NHS operations – and our Transport Drivers are no exception. Based at Colchester Hospital, this is your opportunity to drive a real impact in your community.

Using company-provided up to 3.5 tonne Luton vans (with tail lifts), you will deliver essential medical items, equipment and supplies between healthcare sites. You’ll be responsible for secure, timely, and confidential transport services – ensuring the safety, comfort and continuity of care for our patients and staff.

What you’ll do:

  • Safely operate 3.5T Luton tail-lift vans to carry out scheduled collections and deliveries across NHS sites and patient homes.

  • Transport a variety of items including pathology samples, medical records, clean/used medical equipment, pharmacy items (incl. controlled drugs), mail, and more.

  • Use tail-lift equipment for safe loading/unloading of heavy or bulky items.

  • Perform portering duties as required when not driving.

  • Complete relevant logs, delivery records and incident reports accurately.

  • Conduct daily vehicle safety checks, ensuring legal compliance and cleanliness.

  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, security, and infection prevention.

  • Communicate clearly with team leaders, NHS colleagues, and service users.

What you bring:

Education/Qualifications - Full clean driving licence. Knowledge of local area and ability to read maps.

Basic maths and English skills  

Skills/Abilities - Flexible approach to working hours. Able to undertake non patient manual handling duties. Undertake the work in all outside weather conditions  

Experience – Driving experience  

Desirable Experience - Driving minibuses/large vans. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of the NHS  

Personal Qualities - Initiative, tact and diplomacy. Working as part of a team
