Faith Services Team Leader

Job Introduction

HMP Addiewell is recruiting for a Faith Services Team Leader who will cater for a variety of faiths with in the 700 prisoner population. The Faith Team focuses on delivering faith services in a responsive fashion.  Reporting to the Head of Case Management the role is diverse, thought-provoking and challenging/rewarding in equal measure.

Addiewell opened in 2008 and has become an integral part of the Scottish Prison Service estate earning much praise for our innovation, use of technology, strong partnership working as well as our “can do” culture.

We have an effective prisoner peer support model, in which prisoners assist staff in the delivery of classes, programmes and activities becoming positive role models for others.HM Prison Addiewell is a high security prison, with a focus on enabling those in its care to change their life pathway. We have a strong and concerted focus on supporting prisoners to address their offending behaviour through delivery of programmes and working with a range of professionals including prison custody officers. We deliver relevant skills via training and employment and work with all areas of the wider community to ensure that prisoners have the best possible chance of leading positive lives following release.

Role Responsibility

  • To lead the prison Faith Services team 
  • Provide personal, moral and spiritual guidance and support for prisoners and staff 
  • Ensure that any and all procedures relating to faith provision are met.  
  • To engender and foster an awareness, understanding and acceptance of multi-faith and multi-cultural needs across the Faith Services team and the prison as a whole 
  • Assist with resettlement processes and give advice and support 
  • Develop and maintain links with faith communities, particularly those in prisoners' home areas 
  • Treat others with respect, dignity and decency

The Ideal Candidate

Experience required:

  • Appropriate experience in the delivery of religious services, ideally in a custodial environment that reflects the necessitation’s of the predominant faiths of the prisoner population
  • Will have proven experience and skills in pastoral care and pastoral leadership, including crisis events
  • Must have working knowledge of other faiths represented within a prison to enable them to work in a multi faith environment
  • Have a proven high level of professionalism and competence in religious leadership to bring to the role

Package Description

Salary - £34,500 pa plus excellent benefits (including free meals and parking, group discount schemes and pension with 28 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays)

37.5 hours per week
