General Instructor – HMP Addiewell
Location: HMP Addiewell | Full-Time | Permanent | £28,000 per annum

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Instructor to join our Learning & Skills team at HMP Addiewell, a modern facility housing up to 796 individuals. In this rewarding role, you’ll deliver a range of educational and vocational programmes, support employability workshops, and play a vital part in the rehabilitation journey of our learners.
You’ll be more than a teacher — you’ll be a mentor, motivator, and positive role model. From literacy to IT, creative writing to personal development, you’ll provide engaging sessions that prepare individuals for a brighter, more productive future.

What You’ll Be Doing
Deliver up to 4 teaching sessions per day (32.5 hours/week) to small groups (max. 16 learners).
Teach subjects across SCQF Levels 2–6, from core skills to vocational training.
Support the employment team by helping manage attendance, performance, and output quality.
Design and deliver creative, inclusive, and engaging lesson plans tailored to diverse learning needs.
Inspire learners to gain confidence, build skills, and work toward meaningful change.
Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to support sentence planning, employability, and rehabilitation.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
✅ A genuine interest in rehabilitation and personal development
✅ Ability to adapt your teaching style to different learners
✅ Confident in delivering a variety of subjects
✅ Organised, IT-literate, and a strong communicator
✅ Able to work occasional evenings or weekends as required
Desirable
⭐ SCQF Level 7 in a teaching/training discipline — or willingness to achieve this within 18 months
⭐ Experience working in a training or education setting, ideally with challenging groups
⭐ Understanding of SQA outcomes and experience with accredited course delivery
