Health and Wellbeing Instructor
Job Introduction
As a Health and Wellbeing Instructor you will deliver engaging theory and practical sessions focused on health, mental wellbeing, yoga, and meditation to prisoners at varying stages of their education journey. You will plan, assess, and document learner progress, ensuring alignment with quality assurance standards, awarding body requirements, and inspection criteria. Supporting rehabilitation, you will help prisoners develop transferable life skills to aid reintegration and further education post-release.
HMP Addiewell is a maximum-security prison, with a strong and concerted focus on learning not to reoffend, relevant skills training and employability. Main Responsibilities
Deliver engaging theory and practical classes focused on health, mental wellbeing, yoga, and meditation to prisoners at various educational stages, with a maximum class size of 16 learners.
Plan, assess, and document learner progress while aligning with quality assurance, awarding body standards (including SQA outcomes from SCQF level 2 to 6), and inspection criteria.
Support rehabilitation by helping prisoners develop transferable life skills and prepare for reintegration and further education post-release.
Collaborate with prison staff and education teams to encourage course uptake, monitor attendance, and promote sentence management goals.
Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learner needs, fostering participation regardless of educational background or ability.
Navigate resource limitations in a secure environment while contributing to departmental development and meeting contractual KPIs.
Deliver up to 4 classroom sessions per day, totaling approximately 6.5 hours daily and up to 32.5 hours per week of direct teaching within a 40-hour working week.

The Ideal Candidate
- Experience in training or proven ability to teach challenging individuals.
- Hold or willing to obtain SCQF Level 7 qualification in a teaching discipline within 18 months.
Interest in offender rehabilitation and resettlement.
Confident in delivering diverse subjects and adapting teaching styles for different learners.
Strong organisational and communication skills with learners and team members.
Proficient IT skills and availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
