Fitness Manager

• 40 hours per week (8hr shift)
• Monday to Friday - Shifts between 6:30am–3:00pm and 10:30am–7:00pm
• You’ll be required to work both opening and closing shifts to support the gym’s operating hours. Your regular rota will be discussed and agreed at second-stage interview, giving you flexibility around your preferred working pattern

About the Role

As Fitness Manager, you'll help lead the fitness operation at GSK HQ, ensuring the facility delivers a high-quality, engaging and safe experience every day.

You'll be responsible for supporting the management of the fitness team and freelance instructors, maintaining operational standards and helping to develop new fitness and wellbeing initiatives.

We're looking for someone with energy, ideas and a hunger to grow, someone who can motivate others, take ownership and make a real difference to the member experience.

What you'll do

Lead & Manage

• Support the Fitness & Wellbeing Manager with the day-to-day leadership and operation of the fitness facility.
• Lead, support and motivate the fitness team and freelance instructors.
• Coordinate freelance instructors and ensure classes are appropriately staffed and delivered.
• Manage class schedules and respond proactively to sickness, absence and changes in cover.
• Create a positive, collaborative and motivating team environment.
• Identify opportunities to improve team performance and member experience.
• Bring new ideas and initiatives to the fitness and wellbeing programme.
• Lead by example and actively engage with members and colleagues.

Fitness & Wellbeing

• Deliver and oversee a varied programme of fitness, group exercise and wellbeing classes.
• Support the delivery of approximately 6–10 classes per week, alongside the wider fitness team.
• Lead engaging 10-minute energiser sessions for groups of around 8 people.
• Deliver gym inductions, fitness assessments and personalised fitness programmes where required.
• Promote healthier lifestyles and encourage participation across the site.
• Support wellbeing events, campaigns and activities.
• Monitor participation and identify opportunities to increase engagement.

Operational Management

• Ensure the gym is safe, welcoming, clean and well maintained.
• Maintain high standards across fitness equipment and facilities.
• Complete and oversee relevant equipment, cleaning and operational checks.
• Support membership enquiries and deliver excellent customer service.
• Help achieve service, engagement and customer experience targets.
• Support the opening and closing of the gym in line with the agreed rota.

Health & Safety

• Take ownership of Health & Safety standards within the fitness facility.
• Ensure appropriate risk assessments are completed, reviewed and followed.
• Ensure fitness activities and classes are delivered safely.
• Maintain appropriate Health & Safety and operational documentation.
• Respond appropriately to accidents, incidents and medical situations.
• Ensure the team understands and follows relevant emergency and site procedures.

What you'll bring

• Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification – essential.
• Previous experience within the fitness industry.
• Previous experience in a fitness leadership, supervisory or management role.
• Experience leading and motivating a team or freelance instructors.
• Experience delivering fitness programmes and group exercise classes.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and risk assessment processes.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Confidence leading groups and engaging a wide range of people.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• A proactive approach and the confidence to use your initiative.
• A genuine passion for health, fitness and wellbeing.
• A hunger to grow and develop both yourself and those around you.
• Creativity and enthusiasm for bringing new ideas to the team.
• Ability to deal calmly and effectively with unexpected situations.
• EMS qualification – desirable. If you don't already hold this qualification, we'll support you to achieve it following successful completion of probation.
