Central Manchester University Hospital (CMUH) – Manchester

Hybrid: 3 days per week on site

Attractive package including car allowance and bonus

Job Introduction

Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) has been at the heart of Manchester’s healthcare system since 1752, evolving from a 12‑bed facility near Withy Grove to its established home on Oxford Road, officially opened by King Edward VII in 1909. Now part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, MRI treats hundreds of thousands of patients each year and delivers specialist services across trauma, transplants, haematology and more.

We are seeking a Commercial Finance Controller to play a pivotal role at Central Manchester University Hospital, supporting complex Soft FM and Hard FM contracts. This is a high‑impact role where you will partner closely with operational leaders, the Trust and Project Co, driving commercial decision‑making, financial performance and continuous improvement within a large, dynamic healthcare environment.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with the Business Director and operational leads to support commercial decision‑making, financial performance and contractual interpretation across CMUH.
  • Deliver accurate monthly financial results for Soft FM and Hard FM contracts, including detailed variance analysis.
  • Lead the preparation of robust budgets and forecasts, identifying risks, opportunities and performance improvement actions.
  • Support commercial negotiations with the Trust and Project Co, influencing outcomes to achieve the best possible result for Sodexo.
  • Ensure revenues are billed accurately and in line with contractual mechanisms, with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Track, price and manage contract variations, new services and growth opportunities to ensure profitability.
  • Provide clear, timely and insightful management information to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Lead and develop the site‑based finance team, promoting strong engagement, capability development and high performance.

What You Will Bring

  • Qualified or part‑qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA or ACCA) with strong commercial finance experience.
  • Proven commercial acumen with experience working on complex, multi‑stakeholder contracts.
  • Confidence to challenge, influence and support senior stakeholders with clear, evidence‑based financial insight.
  • Strong experience driving financial performance, continuous improvement and value‑led decision‑making.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate outputs to tight deadlines.
  • Experience scoping, delivering and embedding financial or commercial projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong Excel and financial modelling capability.
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to build, motivate and develop high‑performing finance teams.

Desirable:

  • Healthcare or NHS‑linked experience
  • PFI contract exposure
  • SAP or similar finance systems experience

You’ll receive an attractive total reward package, including car allowance and bonus, alongside flexible, home‑based working and the opportunity to lead some of the most high‑profile and impactful Healthcare bids in the market.
