About the Role

Sodexo is looking for an experienced Cleaning Supervisor to join the team at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh.

Working closely with the Contract Manager and Cleaning Manager, you will help oversee the day-to-day delivery of a high-quality cleaning service across the site. You’ll supervise the cleaning team, ensure standards are consistently maintained, and help create a safe, welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

This is a hands-on supervisory role, ideal for someone with previous cleaning or housekeeping experience who enjoys supporting and leading a team.

What You’ll Do

  • Supervise the cleaning team, allocate work, manage rotas, and monitor hours, sickness and annual leave.
  • Support the Contract and Cleaning Managers with the day-to-day running of the cleaning operation and provide cover when required.
  • Ensure cleaning schedules, standards and KPIs are consistently met through regular quality checks and monthly audits.
  • Conduct two safety walks per month, report near misses and ensure all health & safety, hygiene, COSHH and cleanliness standards are maintained.
  • Support staff training, identify development needs and communicate information from meetings and training sessions to the team.
  • Manage cleaning materials, stock levels and equipment, ensuring safe storage, usage, maintenance and reporting of faults.
  • Liaise with cleaning staff, colleagues, management and the client to ensure a high-quality, efficient service.
  • Deal professionally with customer feedback, complaints and compliments, and report any accidents, incidents or other irregularities promptly.
  • Maintain a professional, friendly and positive approach at all times.
  • Support continuous improvement and carry out any other reasonable duties as required by management.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience within the cleaning or housekeeping industry.
  • Experience supervising or leading a cleaning team.
  • Good knowledge of cleaning standards, practices and developments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A good understanding of health & safety and safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and the safe use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • A professional approach and high standards of personal presentation.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and remain calm under pressure.
  • A proactive approach to maintaining and improving cleaning standards.

Desirable

  • BICs Level 1 or equivalent cleaning qualification.
  • Previous experience working in an environment where compliance with strict standards is essential.
