About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Waste & Environmental Operative to support day-to-day waste management across our manufacturing site. You will help ensure waste is collected, sorted, and processed correctly, while keeping the site clean, safe, and running efficiently.
This is a practical, varied role where you will play an important part in supporting recycling, reducing waste, and improving how we manage materials on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the site’s objective to achieve zero waste to landfill by identifying and implementing improvements in waste handling systems
- Collect waste from various site locations and ensure correct segregation into appropriate waste streams
- Operate compactors and balers safely and effectively to optimise waste volume reduction
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation as well as company and client policies and procedures
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and housekeeping across all waste management areas (internal and external)
- Safely operate equipment and vehicles in accordance with site access and egress procedures
- Champion health & safety by following all procedures, including reporting near misses and hazards
- Support environmental audits and ensure full compliance at all times
- Work collaboratively with site teams to improve sustainability performance and reduce operational costs
- Assist in training and coaching team members on correct waste segregation practices
- Support the review and updating of risk assessments, policies, and safe systems of work
- Deliver or support waste awareness training across site teams
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness, and environmental performance
- Carry out general site maintenance duties such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, and weed clearance
- Be flexible to work varying shifts and overtime as required
- Attend training sessions as required and contribute to ongoing personal development
Skills and Experience Required
- Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment (preferred)
- Strong awareness of health & safety practices and a safety-first mindset
- Understanding of recycling processes and sustainability principles
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling duties
- Professional, customer-focused, and positive attitude
- Flexible approach to working hours, including overtime when required
