Join Sodexo as a Mess Accountant at Swinton Barracks, where you’ll provide essential accounting and administrative support to the military mess — a place where service personnel come together to dine and socialise.

From preparing monthly bills and recording bar sales to maintaining accurate accounts and answering queries, you’ll enjoy a varied role with regular contact with mess members, visitors and the wider team.

Working closely with the Mess Manager and Accounts Supervisor, your accuracy, organisation and friendly approach will help deliver a reliable service to our Armed Forces community.

What you’ll do

• Use the company’s computerised mess accounts system to maintain accurate financial records.
• Record daily dining information and weekly bar sales, allocating charges to the correct individuals or cost centres.
• Prepare monthly bills for mess members within seven working days of month-end, and visitor bills as required.
• Maintain monthly income and expenditure accounts, submitting these to the Mess Manager or Accounts Supervisor after month-end close.
• Check and pay invoices, receive cash and cheques, and arrange banking as appropriate.
• Maintain the cash float and postage supplies, ensuring all transactions are accounted for.
• Keep mess member and visitor mailing lists up to date.
• Respond to account and billing queries, working closely with the Mess Manager, Accounts Supervisor, members and suppliers.
• Keep cash, financial information and documentation secure and confidential.
• Provide administrative support, including preparing letters, filing and maintaining company records.
• Support other Mess Accountants during periods of absence when required.
• Follow company procedures and health and safety requirements, meeting deadlines and escalating concerns to your manager.

What you’ll bring

• Good numerical skills and a careful, accurate approach to handling information.
• Confidence using computers and maintaining electronic records.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage regular tasks and meet deadlines.
• Clear, friendly communication skills and a helpful approach to queries.
• An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and secure handling of money and records.
• The ability to work collaboratively and support colleagues when needed.
• A willingness to learn company systems and develop your skills.

Experience in accounts, billing or administration would be useful, particularly within a military mess or similar environment.
