Job Introduction

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineering professional looking for your next leadership opportunity? Join Sodexo's Hard FM Estates team at Royal Stoke University Hospital and Haywood Hospital, where you'll play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of critical healthcare facilities.

As Mechanical Manager, you'll lead a skilled engineering team, oversee planned and reactive maintenance activities, manage specialist contractors, and ensure statutory compliance across a complex healthcare estate. You'll be responsible for maintaining essential mechanical systems, supporting lifecycle projects, driving service performance, and building strong relationships with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.

We're looking for a highly organised engineering leader with a mechanical qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent), substantial maintenance experience, strong technical knowledge, and a passion for delivering high-quality services in a fast-paced environment. Healthcare experience is desirable but not essential.

If you're a proactive problem solver with excellent leadership skills and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team, providing guidance, support, and performance management.
  • Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across the hospital estate.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems and equipment are maintained safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory compliance requirements.
  • Manage specialist contractors and service providers, ensuring work is completed to high standards.
  • Monitor compliance, audits, and inspections, maintaining accurate maintenance and safety records.
  • Support and deliver engineering projects, refurbishments, and lifecycle replacement programmes.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clinical teams, stakeholders, and the wider estates department.
  • Drive continuous improvement, helping to improve service performance, reliability, safety, and value for money.

What You Bring:

  • A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience managing mechanical maintenance services within a complex environment.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory compliance, health & safety regulations, and engineering standards.
  • Experience leading, motivating, and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions.
  • Experience managing contractors, suppliers, and service delivery against performance standards.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
  • A proactive and customer-focused approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality services.
