Kitchen Porter | GSK, Stevenage, Gunnels Wood Road, Herts, SG1 2NY

At Sodexo, you'll belong in a team where great food, creativity and exceptional service come together. We're looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our catering team at the GSK site in Stevenage.

GSK Stevenage is a major research and development hub, bringing together more than 2,000 GSK colleagues working across a range of scientific and specialist areas. You'll be part of a busy corporate catering operation serving around 600 covers at lunchtime, supporting a kitchen that delivers a varied food offer including traditional and bistro-style meals, street food and a salad bar.

You'll work as part of a close-knit kitchen team alongside four chefs, one Food Service Assistant and two Kitchen Porters, playing an important role in keeping the kitchen clean, organised and running smoothly throughout service.

What you'll do

  • Wash dishes, pots, pans and utensils
  • Clean kitchen surfaces, floors and equipment
  • Empty bins and manage kitchen waste
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness
  • Assist chefs with basic food preparation, such as peeling and chopping
  • Refill ingredients and kitchen supplies
  • Support the team during busy lunchtime service
  • Receive and check deliveries against invoices
  • Check food and supplies for quality and freshness
  • Report any missing or damaged items to the Head Chef
  • Organise and store food and supplies correctly
  • Follow FIFO principles to help reduce waste
  • Ensure food is correctly labelled and date marked
  • Keep storage areas clean, tidy and organised
  • Report damaged or faulty equipment
  • Report safety observations and incidents
  • Attend mandatory training, daily briefs and weekly team huddles
  • Follow all Health & Safety, food safety and allergen procedures
  • Support the wider catering team with reasonable additional duties when required

What you'll bring

  • Previous kitchen, catering or hospitality experience would be beneficial, but full training will be provided
  • Basic Food Safety knowledge or training
  • Allergen awareness
  • Health & Safety awareness
  • Strong attention to detail and high hygiene standards
  • Good time management and ability to prioritise tasks
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently during busy service periods
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A positive and resilient approach to working under pressure
  • Ability to stand for long periods and carry out physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to lift stock, carry trays and undertake repetitive tasks
  • Willingness to work flexibly to support business needs
  • A proactive, hardworking and can-do attitude
