Tutor - Core Skills (custodial teaching)

Job Introduction

The c30-strong Learning & Activities Department caters for a wide range of educational and vocational needs for the 700 prisoners and seeks to invest in two, passionate, open-minded, patient and innovative Tutors to join the team.  Reporting to the Learning Manager the role is diverse, thought-provoking and challenging/rewarding in equal measure.

Role Responsibility

  • Develop the curriculum to cater for varying levels of knowledge and aptitudes within the prisoner population
  • Create innovative lesson plans to engage and retain prisoner attention and attendance
  • Report on prisoner progress and collaborate with colleagues to improve sentence management, increase academic attainment and prepare prisoners for release
  • Encourage, support and sustain prisoners seeking to gain qualifications
  • Ensure compliance with relevant SQA teaching, quality assurance and testing/assessment guidelines

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • We need Tutors with extensive previous experience in an educational, training or learning role
  • An appropriate qualification at SCQF Level 8/9 or equivalent is essential.
  • A good understanding of Scottish Learning Frameworks
  • Evidence of the ability to build relationships across the classroom, department and prison as a whole

  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Team Player.

Package Description

£28,470 plus excellent benefits (including free meals and parking, group discount schemes and pension with 38 days holiday)
