Technical Fire Appointed Person (AP) - Healthcare

As a Technical Fire Appointed Person (AP) at Sodexo based on site at Manchester University Hospital you will be responsible for all the fire systems across this large site ensuring we are compliant with safe systems of work and all regulations. You’ll manage our sub-contractors on site providing them with direction and planning of work.

This role is one of responsibility and accountability, planning and delivering on Maintenance Strategies and Capital & Lifecycle Projects design reviews. You will report directly to the Sodexo Operations and Maintenance Manager delivering SME services to the Sodexo projects department.

Main Responsibilities

What you'll do:

 

  • Adhere to Healthcare Technical Memorandum 00.
  • Serve as the lead fire Authorised Person (AP).
  • Develop and deliver the Annual Schedule of Programmed Maintenance Plan (ASoPM).
  • Ensure efficient service delivery and compliance with ASoPM.
  • Oversee and report on the competence and performance of internal personnel and electrical subcontractors.
  • Support with the creation and delivery of technical reports to senior management.
  • Contribute to the estates risk register and implement risk mitigations and controls.
  • Attend fire safety council meetings regularly.
  • Organize and execute Fire Cause and Effects testing through subcontractors.
  • Issue necessary fire safety documentation.
  • Ensure fire systems operate correctly and manage any vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure sub-contractors deliver high-quality, compliant services on time.
  • Address actions from fire safety working groups.
  • Conduct inductions for sub-contractors and project managers.
  • Assist with safe systems of work procedures and review of project-specific tasks.
  • Assess subcontractor qualifications and capability.
  • Review technical designs for compliance and risk.
  • Witness testing, commissioning, and validation of project installations.
  • Support the operational handover upon project completion.
  • Migrate asset and maintenance information into Sodexo's systems.

The Ideal Candidate

What you bring

 

  • Previous role as an appointed healthcare authorised person.
  • ONC/HNC or similar qualification in electrical engineering.
  • Excellent working knowledge of safe systems of work related to Fire systems and general construction.
  • Ability to identify problems, understand key issues and investigate alternatives.
  • Experience with design and build projects is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Knowledge and experience in completing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge of HTM 05 and Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order.
  • Self-motivated and confident.
  • Good Communication skills 
  • A good decision maker who copes well under pressure.
  • Computer aided facilities management (CAFM) and building information Model (BIM) Experience.
  • Training will be provided for the successful applicant to ensure development within the role.
