Sodexo are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Math Teacher to work within HMP YOI Bronzefield.
As a Math Teacher, your primary responsibility will be to support and educate imprisoned individuals in various mathematical concepts and skills, helping them to develop a solid foundation in mathematics and achieve their educational goals.
Working in a prison might not be what you imagine. You will find the residents in general have a positive attitude to learning which in turn creates a nice teaching atmosphere
You will deliver up to 4 lessons a day with time for lesson planning during the working week. You will be supported by our learning support team with marking of work so you will not need to take your work home with you.
You will be part of a thriving department that is the heart of HMP & YOI Bronzefield, and will work alongside a team of creative and innovative teachers who encourage and empower our residents to take responsibility for their learning.
Your friendly and professional demeanour will contribute to your effective delivery of a range of exciting courses to residents whose levels may vary, from pre-entry up to Level 2 whilst supporting them on their journey to rehabilitation.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide lessons to imprisoned individuals with varying levels of mathematical proficiency. Average class size of six learners.
- Assess the math skills and knowledge of each prisoner to determine their specific needs and learning objective.
- Develop customised lesson plans and instructional materials based on individual learning styles, focusing on key mathematical topics.
- Teach and explain mathematical concepts, principles, and problem-solving techniques in a clear and concise manner, adapting instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning abilities.
The Ideal Candidate
- Full teaching qualification (minimum of CTLLS) or PGCE or working towards.
- Experience of delivering Functional Skills in the classroom.
- Recognised level 3 qualification or above in an identified subject and professional experience.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and inspire imprisoned individuals to achieve academic success.
- Strong organisational skills to develop lesson plans, track progress and maintain accurate records.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work within the constraints of a prison environment.
£31,365.37-£36,190.80 per annum +£3,729.24 London weighting
