Learning and Skills Manager
Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals within the criminal justice system? Do you have experience in working with key stakeholders in a target focused environment? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Learning and Skills Manager at HMP Northumberland.
As the Learning and Skills Manager at HMP Northumberland, you will play a vital role in ensuring the education of prisoners and supporting prison leavers towards employment and stability on release. You will lead and manage the Learning, Skills, and Employment Team towards creating a respectful and decent environment that fosters personal learning and development for all prisoners. You will achieve this through skilful budget management, while delivering to SLAs and ensuring the education provided by our teams meets the standards set by key stakeholders and governing bodies.
As a working prison, we work towards the resettlement of residents upon their release into the community and their integration into society through the skills acquired while in our care. We are committed to supporting people to change for the better and lead law-abiding lives. HMP Northumberland offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture.
This is a challenging and rewarding role for someone with the drive and determination to make impactful and lasting impressions on the future of our prisoners.
Please see the attached job description for a more detailed list of the main responsibilities.
The Ideal Candidate
What we are looking for:
- Ideally a qualified teacher/NVQ assessor with a relevant national qualification and/or experience in adult learning and skills delivery.
- An understanding of correctional theory, concerning prison rehabilitation.
- Demonstration of effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience monitoring performance in a complex environment.
- Evidence of an analytical approach to challenges with expert problem-solving skills.

Whilst we are ideally looking for a candidate that meets most of the above, we would implore applicants who think they have the relevant transferrable skills to apply for this role, as you may still be a great fit and we wouldn’t want to miss you!
Please note that if you are successful for the role, you may be asked to participate in a training event on the 7th to the 9th of November 2023, which may fall within your notice period.
