Lab Support Services Assistant

An opportunity has arisen for a Lab Support Services assistant to work within Unilever Port Sunlight Research and Development in Wirral, CH63 3JW 

This position requires someone who has experience of working in the R&D environment, can engage directly with the client staff to ensure delivery to timeline deadlines in a critical and controlled environment. The individual must be proactive, customer focused and organised.  Good communicator and work with different departments and ability to use Microsoft office programmes.

  What you’ll do:  

• Work with Unilever team to ensure instructions are clear and concise
• Comply and follow all Risk assessments for all activities
• Ensure the laboratory is prepared with materials and equipment as necessary each day for scientists to carry out their experiments
• Work with the Sodexo teams to collect and return daily materials, samples and equipment from storage within the Tower, Packaging lab and off-site storage
• Ensure lab equipment being set out is statutory compliant and calibration tests are in date
• Liaise with Sodexo departments that daily and weekly picklists are delivered to laboratory locations in lab, AMC and MIF
• Assist in all storage areas serving the laboratory including stock management
• Assist in glassware washing and that it is stored correctly in designated areas
• Assist in the movement and storage of prototypes including labelling
• Assist in PPE stock control, replenishment each day to agreed levels
• Assist in the movement of samples placed in the temperature and climate-controlled ovens
• Assist waste being removed from the laboratory to required standards
• Comply with lab rules especially lab coat protocols
• The above list is not exhaustive as the service will continue to develop

What you bring:  

• Previous experience within a similar role would be beneficial

• A keen eye for detail – nothing goes unnoticed 

• Excellent communication skills: ability to connect and work with a young and demanding set of employees 

• Energetic and capable of taking initiative and decisions when needed

• Shift Pattern: Monday to Thursday - 14:00 - 18:00, Friday 13:30 to 17:30
• 20 Hours per week
• £12.32 per hour
