At Sodexo, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to act with purpose and thrive in their own way. We are currently recruiting an Industrial Caterer to join our Catering team at HMP Peterborough, a modern dual-category prison housing both male and female prisoners.

This is a rewarding and varied role where catering excellence meets rehabilitation. You will play a key part in delivering a safe, high-quality food service while supporting prisoners to develop essential catering skills, gain recognised qualifications, and improve their employability on release.

Main Responsibilities

  • Build positive working relationships with prisoners, supporting them to achieve NVQ Level 1 & 2 in Catering and develop employability skills.

  • Support the induction, supervision, and ongoing development of prisoner workers in the main kitchen and staff canteen.

  • Assist with the preparation and cooking of meals for up to 1,300 prisoners twice daily, in line with Sodexo policies and menu cycles.

  • Ensure full compliance with food safety, health & safety, security procedures, paperwork requirements, and tool control processes.

  • Monitor quality and standards of work produced by prisoners, challenging negative behaviour and reporting concerns as required.

  • Work collaboratively with the Catering Supervisor and management team to meet operational targets and departmental objectives.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • City & Guilds 706/2 or 7132/06–07, or equivalent qualification in food production and cooking.

  • Food Safety Level 2 qualification.

  • Experience working in an industrial or high-volume catering environment.

  • A genuine interest in the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Successful candidates will be subject to enhanced DBS and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) security vetting.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a custodial, institutional, or secure environment.

  • Experience supporting or training others in a catering setting.


Package Description

  • £31,000 – £33,900 per annum

  • 4 days on / 4 days off shift pattern

  • 12-hour shifts

  • Sodexo benefits package
