Forensic Psychologist

Job Introduction

Are you an experienced forensic psychologist looking for a challenging and rewarding career opportunity? We're seeking a dedicated Forensic Psychologist to join our team at HMP Altcourse.

What we are offering:

  • Around £50,000 plus benefits

  • Monday – Friday Shift Pattern

  • Site based with opportunity to work 1-2 days a week from home

Your Role as a Forensic Psychologist

As a Forensic Psychologist, you will work closely with the Head of Psychology to develop and promote the psychological services within the Prison and work collaboratively with the Psychology team and external stakeholders.

You will help to support a team Forensic Psychologists-in-Training and will support team members with their caseloads, whilst also maintaining direct contact with prisoners with complex needs including personality disorders, and serious offending histories.

We envisage that candidates who have worked a prison experience will have the relevant skills and knowledge for this position. However, this is an approximate guide for applicants and candidates who have worked in any Forensic Psychologist position who are looking to make the next step in their careers will also be considered.

The Ideal Candidate

What the ideal candidate may look like: 

  • You will need to be an HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist
  • Experience of working in secure settings
  • Knowledge of psychological theory in working with individuals with personality disorders, histories of violence, psychopathic traits and learning disabilities.
  • You will be conducting assessments and supervising others which will require practice in the administration and interpretation of psychological assessments.
  • Experience of achieving Key Performance Targets
