Job Introduction

As a Commis Chef at Sodexo in Oasis Restore, Rochester, you'll have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to positively change the lives of disadvantaged children in custody or on remand. We are building a brand-new organisation that has never been tried before in the UK.  This role includes the preparation and serving of our various menus and ensuring all working areas are always kept clean and tidy. What you do:

  • Follow the Company and Statutory Regulations pertaining to the safe and hygienic operation of the kitchen, whilst maintaining a clean, safe and professional work environment across all relevant outlets.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of all meal services at the required times and to the required standard.
  • Prepare menus within agreed food offers, SOPs, budget and costs.
  • Maintain excellent standards of food
  • Prepare all food with due care and attention, particularly regarding customers’ special dietary requirements: allergies, food intolerances and religious or other considerations.
  • To take all necessary steps to ensure maximum security of the kitchen, store, office and any other areas under Sodexo control.
  • Work on and support any special functions which may sometimes be outside of normal working hours at evenings and weekends and promotions in line with segment marketing and promotional calendar
  • Training:
    • Involvement in preparation and delivery of inhouse training programmes
    • Participate in relevant training courses and apprenticeship programmes

What you bring:

Essential

  • Patient with good interpersonal skills and the ability to build quality relationships with colleagues and clients while respecting boundaries
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Good communication skills & customer focused
  • Self-motivated, hard working and able to have a flexible approach to the role
  • Ability to work inclusively as part of a team or individually as needed
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain personal resilience in all situations 
  • Highly motivated, passionate about food with a desire to develop and grow
  • Recognised professional qualifications in cookery or suitable experience. .
  • Holds current food hygiene certificates 
  • Craft skills and experience in relevant establishments 
  • The ability to challenge inappropriate behaviour 
  • Required to complete pre-employment checks (MOJ Enhanced security clearance & Safer Recruitment checks)

Desirable 

  • Experience of working in a similar custodial/secure environment
  • 706/2 or NVQ2 and above chef qualification, or equivalent
  • Must show great passion for their job and want to achieve great things
  • Experience in restaurant or other sectors of industry.

Package Description

COMMIS CHEF

  • £13.00 per hour
  • 35 hours per week
  • Working pattern: working 5 days over 7 (no nights)
  • This is all year round operational site.
