Anglican Chaplain

We are looking for a dedicated Anglican Chaplain to join our Chaplaincy team at HMP Peterborough. In this role, you will provide spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and faith-based support to prisoners, staff, and their families. You will play a vital role in maintaining the well-being of the prison community, delivering compassionate ministry in line with PSI 51 on Pastoral Care, and supporting chaplaincy operations across the establishment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and faith-based support to prisoners, staff, and their families, including crisis intervention and mentoring chaplains or volunteers.
  • Plan, lead, and facilitate worship, prayer, study groups, and faith-specific programmes, ensuring accessible chaplaincy services.
  • Contribute to policy development, training programmes, and continuous improvement of chaplaincy services, including Service Delivery Indicators (SDIs).
  • Collaborate with chaplaincy colleagues and external faith communities to maintain facilities, deliver services, and coordinate religious events.
  • Manage administrative duties, data collection, and reporting to support effective chaplaincy operations.
  • Maintain personal spiritual development and support the establishment in the absence of the Managing Chaplain, actively participating in meetings and processes such as ACCT.

The Ideal Candidate

  • An ordained member of the Anglican Communion (or churches under the Porvoo and Meissen Agreements) with a minimum of three years in Holy Orders.
  • Holds formal endorsement via a License from the Diocesan Bishop (evidence required prior to appointment).
  • Confident in delivering all spoken aspects of the role in English, including pastoral care, ministry, and leadership.
  • Demonstrates strong competencies in decision-making, communication, service management, safety, and caring for others.
  • Committed to upholding PSI 51 on Pastoral Care, ministering effectively to all residents of the faith, and maintaining high standards in all assigned responsibilities.
  • Successful candidates will be required to undertake Enhanced Level 2 & CTC (processed via site VCP).

Package Description

  • £20,716.80 (pro-rata)
  • Variable working days per week; Sunday attendance is mandatory
