Administrator - Prison Correspondence
Job Introduction
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Prison Correspondence Administrator where you will be responsible for the administration of all incoming and outgoing correspondance. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a fast paced environment where you will assist with the aim to change lives for the better by reducing re-offending and risk of harm and improving the quality of life of those under our supervision and in our care. We have an effective prisoner peer support model, in which prisoners assist staff in the delivery of classes, programmes and activities becoming positive role models for others.HM Prison Addiewell is a high security prison, with a focus on enabling those in its care to change their life pathway. We have a strong and concerted focus on supporting prisoners to address their offending behaviour through delivery of programmes and working with a range of professionals including prison custody officers. We deliver relevant skills via training and employment and work with all areas of the wider community to ensure that prisoners have the best possible chance of leading positive lives following release.
Addiewell opened in 2008 and has become an integral part of the Scottish Prison Service estate earning much praise for our innovation, use of technology, strong partnership working as well as our “can do” culture.

Role Responsibility
Responsible for the administration of all incoming and outgoing correspondence which involves the following:
- Deal with all correspondence in/out of the establishment and distribute to relevant department.
- Record and process all special and recorded delivery items, incoming and outgoing
- Monitor “Email a Prisoner” emails for flagged photos and escalate where required.
- Deal with any queries regarding mail both internally and externally
- Manage the Resident Mobile phone process which includes assigning phones to new admissions, reprogramming of old phones and updating contact numbers when required.
- Be part of a multi-tasked team to provide a service to the prison. This will include providing cover for other administrators when required.
- Undertake duties as required that will contribute to the effective operation of the prison.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Liaise with employees and members of the public in a polite, confident and friendly manner.
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working in a similar environment or role
- Previous administration experience
- Able to operate relevant IT applications
- Experience of working under pressure and to deadlines
- Able to manage competing work priorities
Package Description
37.5 hours per week
£17,500 per annum plus excellent benefits (including free meals and parking, group discount schemes and pension with 28 days holiday)
Hours of work will be Monday to Friday
