We are currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Head Steward / Waiter / Waitress to join our team at Larkhill Garrison. This is a key supervisory role responsible for delivering a high-quality dining service that meets both MOD and company standards, while leading, motivating, and developing a dedicated team.
As Head Steward, you will take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the dining service, ensuring excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene, customer service, and compliance. You will work closely with the Mess Manager to deliver first-class service for daily meals and formal functions.
Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation across all dining areas
Supervise, motivate, and develop dining room staff to deliver excellent customer service
Allocate weekly work schedules to ensure efficiency and task completion
Monitor daily performance and standards within the team
Train new staff, including on-the-job and chemical safety training
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and COSHH regulations
Roster staff, maintain discipline, and report staffing issues to the Mess Manager
Ensure dining service meets client requirements, including service style and meal timings
Assist with function planning, including staffing, equipment preparation, and disposables
Act as Maitre D’ during functions, ensuring smooth service and client satisfaction
Oversee correct use, storage, and control of equipment, machinery, and cleaning materials
Ensure crockery, cutlery, silverware, and EPNS are clean and presentable before use
Maintain quality control procedures and promote continuous improvement
Be present during meal times to ensure smooth service and positive customer relations
Proven experience in a supervisory or head steward role within catering or hospitality
Strong leadership and communication skills
High standards of personal hygiene and professional presentation
Sound knowledge of Health & Safety, Food Safety, and COSHH regulations
Ability to work effectively in a structured, client-focused environment
A proactive approach to problem-solving and team development
