About the Role

As a General Catering Assistant / Barista, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the café and food service areas. From preparing and serving high-quality beverages and food to maintaining excellent hygiene standards, you'll help create a welcoming and professional experience for students, staff, and visitors.

Working as part of a busy team, you'll support both core catering operations and retail café services while ensuring the highest standards of customer care.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with the preparation and serving of food and beverages
  • Prepare and serve a range of coffees and speciality drinks using commercial coffee machines
  • Operate café equipment including coffee machines, panini grills, blenders, and dishwashers
  • Support both retail café operations and core feeding services
  • Operate the EPOS till system and process cash and card transactions accurately
  • Replenish food displays and service counters throughout the day
  • Maintain clean, safe, and hygienic café, kitchen, and customer areas
  • Follow all food hygiene, allergen, health & safety, and company procedures
  • Support stock replenishment and deliveries
  • Respond to customer queries in a friendly, professional manner
  • Report incidents, complaints, compliments, or maintenance issues appropriately
  • Attend training sessions and team meetings as required
  • Support the wider catering team to ensure smooth daily operations

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a busy team
  • Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks
  • Flexible approach to work and willingness to support different areas of the operation

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a café, hospitality, retail, or catering environment
  • Previous barista experience
  • Food Hygiene or Health & Safety qualification
  • Experience operating tills or EPOS systems
