Job Introduction

Bring your passion to the plate. Make a difference every day.

As a Cook at Sodexo in Aldeburgh Community Hospital, you’ll play a vital role in preparing high-quality meals that support patient wellbeing and enhance the overall dining experience. You’ll be responsible for managing your own section of the kitchen, ensuring every dish meets our high standards. If you’re passionate about food, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and want to be part of a purpose-driven team — this is the role for you. Join Sodexo and be part of something greater. You belong in a team where you can act with purpose and thrive in your way.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare and cook dishes from planned menus using standardised recipes.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Monitor portion control, stock rotation, food temperatures and delivery quantities.
  • Assist with serving meals to patients, staff and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate temperature, probe-monitoring and stock records.
  • Use kitchen equipment safely and report any faults, incidents or pest concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with catering colleagues, ward teams and other departments.
  • Support and train colleagues while helping maintain an efficient, positive working environment.
  • Follow food safety, infection control, COSHH, safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
  • Work flexibly across Patient Dining and take responsibility when the Supervisor or Team Leader is unavailable.

What you bring:

  • Previous experience working in a Cook position.
  • A City & Guilds 7061/2 catering qualification or an equivalent NVQ Level 2 qualification.
  • A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Experience using standardised recipes, managing portion control and maintaining stock.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • A punctual, flexible and reliable approach.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet service deadlines.
  • Experience using cleaning equipment and maintaining excellent hygiene standards.
  • A full driving licence.
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude, with a willingness to undertake training and support changing service needs.
  • Healthcare catering experience, knowledge of NHS policies or a Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate would be an advantage.
