Part Time Art Tutor

As Art Tutor, you will contribute to the delivery of Art and Crafts training, manage safe working practices for new and existing prisoners.providing prisoners with the opportunity to gain nationally accredited awards where appropriate

Role Responsibility

  • Train female prisoners on a range of arts and crafts courses with a specific focus on social enterprise and skills needed to start a small business.
  • Take on course tutor responsibilities for a designated groups of learners, to include the devising and development of project briefs, lesson plans and appropriate resources.
  • Follow and become familiar with all processes relating to qualifications and examinations, including registration and submissions to external validating bodies
  • Attend relevant external courses and conferences.
  • Provide regular feedback to learners, and to give group and individual tutorial support to enable them to achieve maximum benefit from their course or programme.
  • Develop learner centred teaching and training strategies, which contribute to the retention, progression and achievement of learners.
  • Be proficient and professional in the assessment of accredited programmes, understanding the importance of standardisation and internal verification processes.
  • Produce all relevant course documentation as required, including coursework, individual learning plans and tutorial records.
  • Liaise with external organisations to create links to industry, work collaboratively with local galleries and bring in potential business for a newly developed social enterprise venture.
  • Be an active member of the Art team and to attend staff development, team and programme meetings as required and to contribute to the development of an integrated learning and support programme for Art learners.
  • Use identified curricula and appropriate teaching methods taking into account that you will be working with challenging groups of learners and those with complex needs.
  • Be adaptable and show a willingness to ‘up skill’ in order to deliver learning on programmes outside of your immediate teaching discipline.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification e.g. PTLLS (Minimum) - OR- The right person who working towards an arts based degree who has the right skills, attitude, ideas and experience.
  • Relevant experience of teaching Art/Adult Education to groups of adults, in particular challenging groups of learners
  • Experience of working with students from a range of cultural and faith backgrounds
  • Experience of preparing individual learning plans
  • Experience of working as a member of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an approachable personality
  • High level of organisational skills

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of business/social enterprise
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation
  • Knowledge of and commitment to best practice in equalities and diversity;
  • Knowledge of assessment processes and awarding bodies

Ability

  • Ability to teach effectively and to prepare relevant teaching materials across a range of levels
  • Ability to work with Art learners in identifying individual learning needs and to negotiate individual learning plans accordingly
  • Ability to teach well, with evidence of differentiation, inclusion and awareness of learning styles       
  • Fluency and accuracy in English, both written and oral
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change
  • Ability to operate flexibly as a team member

Package Description

£10,267.38 + London Weighting £1,567.50 and additional benefits including free meals, parking, Gym and corporate discounts
