Operational Support Officer

Role Responsibility

OSOs are essential to the smooth, efficient and effective management of the prison and support colleagues and visitors across all aspects of the site.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining site security by controlling access at the gatehouse, searching vehicles and visitors and checking identification
  • Controlling and issuing equipment to colleagues including keys and radios
  • Ensuring that the environment is safe and secure and reporting breaches of security or health & safety are reporting immediately
  • Perform control room and other duties as instructed by senior officers
  • Maintain the CCTV video library
  • Promote equality, inclusion and safety and the Sodexo values (Respect, Rights and Responsibilities)

The Ideal Candidate

Experience required:

  • Demonstrable commitment to excellent customer service
  • Ability to calmly challenge inappropriate behaviour
  • Willingness to tackle a wide range of day to day activities

  • Strong customer service ethos with well-developed inter-personal skills
  • Proactive approach to health, safety, security, equality and inclusion
  • Proactive, systematic approach to tasks
  • Comfortable functioning independently within a close knit team

A sizeable proportion of our Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO) population joined the prison as an OSO and found that the experience gained stood them in very good stead for promotion as their career developed.This could be the start of a lengthy and rewarding career within Sodexo Justice Services.

Package Description

£19,331 (being salary of £15,973 plus £3,358 London weighting) rising to £20,331 (incl LW) after completion of probation - plus excellent benefits including free meals and parking, group discount schemes and pension with 28 days holiday
