As part of the Hard FM team at the Oxford Road Campus, you’ll play a key role in maintaining a safe, efficient and compliant environment across clinical and non‑clinical areas. This role delivers a high‑quality mechanical and plumbing service within a complex healthcare setting, ensuring plant, equipment, and building systems are well‑maintained, reliable, and safe for patients, visitors, and staff. You'll work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary estates team, contributing to a proactive, customer‑focused maintenance service that supports the Trust’s operational needs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Carry out reactive and planned mechanical and plumbing maintenance, repairs and installations across the campus.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on a wide range of mechanical systems including hot & cold water, heating, pumps, compressors, motors, and steam systems.
  • Undertake statutory inspections, testing, and documentation in line with HTM, HBN and Trust compliance standards.
  • Provide technical advice and support to colleagues, contractors and stakeholders, ensuring safe systems of work and adherence to permits and procedures.
  • Complete maintenance activities using job allocation systems, PDAs and CAFM platforms, ensuring accurate reporting and follow‑up.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota and respond to emergency situations such as lift entrapments, system failures and urgent repairs.
  • Work collaboratively with other trades, Soft FM teams, and clinical departments to minimise disruption and maintain operational resilience.
  • Support continuous improvement by contributing to procedure updates, maintenance planning and identifying areas for service enhancement.

What You Bring:

  • Level 3 vocational qualification (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering / Plumbing with strong post‑qualification experience.
  • Solid understanding of NHS estate systems, HTMs, HBNs, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical systems, plant and equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise tasks and operate with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non‑technical staff.
  • Commitment to safe working practices, risk assessment and adherence to health & safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to work in challenging environments (e.g., plant rooms, confined spaces, clinical areas) and willingness to undertake necessary training.
  • A collaborative, customer‑focused approach with the professionalism and resilience required in a live healthcare environment.
