Officers Mess Manager (Defence site hospitality & leisure)

Job Introduction

Are you an experienced services (Hospitality & Leisure) professional who enjoys the leadership and the administration side of management, and who excels in a client facing role?  Fancy not working unsocial hours day in day out? You'll be required to cover functions where necessary - 1 our of 4 weekends as an average.

A great opportunity to join the team following an intenal move at our high profile Colchester Barracks where you can contribute to providing the five Regiments in our UK Army personnel with the high quality facilities and services they deserve, and be proud to do so.

You'll complete bar accounts and PAYD (Pay as you Dine) accounts, and oversee the team of 52.

We have been working with the Ministry of Defence since 1986 and provide a wide range of services to support British servicemen and women serving in the United Kingdom and overseas.  Our catering, retail and leisure facilities have been developed to combine high street style restaurants, cafés, bars, shops and leisure services

Role Responsibility

  • Perform and supervise the day to day activities of the Mess, to the benefit of all members and residents
  • Promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team
  • Ensure standards of service detailed in the schedule of requirements (SOR) and quantity tables are achieved, maintained and developed
  • Liaise with the PMC/RSM and mess committee to develop relationships and promote Sodexo

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company
  • Proven experience in hospitality sector, including stock management, cash control and customer service
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety (level 2 as a minimum, ideally 3 or 4)
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Analyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions

Desirable

  • IOSH and CIEH qualifications or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a military environment
