Shipping and Logistics Operative

Job Introduction

To provide the day to day shipping and Logistics service and tasks required at GSK, which are covered by the GSK Shipper/CFSP/Logistics function, on behalf of the WREF business service GSK and to provide support for all incoming/outgoing mail and goods shipments handled by Sodexo Logistics.

Role Responsibility

Receive process and distribute incoming/outgoing goods as required, reporting any damage and ensuring appropriate storage.
Operate and maintain computerised databases and systems to ensure reports are accurate and complete
Operate equipment and drive company vehicles as required.
Ensure that all necessary tracking and recording databases and records are completed accurately to comply with regulatory and business requirements
Inspect shipments for despatch to ensure packaging is appropriate for purpose and report non-conformities before shipment.
Arrange shipment via an appropriate carrier, liaising with collection / delivery drivers to ensure that shipping records are complete, accurate and are maintained / retained according to GSK retention requirements.
Liaise with IESS (Import Export Shared Services) as required to ensure that customs records (e.g. Track and Trace) are correct and assist with hosting H.M.Customs audits as and when required.
Provide support to customers and non courier shipment systems in completing required documentation and keep customers informed of any issues affecting the safe and timely transportation of shipments.
Process and cross charge invoices to customers for service provision, arbitrate disputes and ensure invoice accuracy

The Ideal Candidate

Experience within a similar industry.
Relevant knowledge and experience in a logistics/shipping environment.
An understanding of import and export requirements.
An understanding of health and safety legislation.
Computer literate.
UK driving license.
Team worker with a flexible approach.
Ability to be able to work unsupervised and make sensible business decisions on behalf of the client.
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Competent approach to working safely in hazardous areas
