As a Shift Building Services Technician for Sodexo at Kings College Hospital, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of critical building services within the Golden Jubilee Wing. You will be responsible for delivering both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems, contributing directly to the hospital’s ability to function safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on, technical role where your ability to diagnose faults, operate plant equipment, liaise with contractors, and respond to emergency situations is essential. Working as part of a 12-hour rotating shift team, you’ll be trusted to maintain service continuity, uphold compliance with health and safety standards, and support the Estates team in protecting and enhancing the hospital’s infrastructure and environment.

What You’ll Do:
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on a wide range of building systems and plant equipment.
- Monitor, operate, and adjust site services using the Building Management System (BMS) to maintain safe and efficient performance.
- Diagnose faults and implement effective repairs to minimise downtime and disruption to hospital services.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, ensuring swift resolution and accurate reporting of incidents.
- Support and supervise specialist contractors to ensure compliance with site procedures and health and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any follow-up actions required.
- Participate in a 12-hour rotating shift pattern, including weekends and public holidays, to provide continuous technical coverage.
- Uphold high standards of cleanliness, safety, and environmental compliance in all work areas and tasks.
What You Bring:
A recognised engineering apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in a relevant Building Services or Engineering discipline (essential).
Proven experience in maintaining and repairing building services systems, including mechanical and electrical plant (essential).
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with the ability to resolve technical issues under pressure (essential).
Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work procedures (essential).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and liaise with contractors and hospital staff (essential).
IT literate and able to maintain accurate maintenance records and reports (essential).
ONC / HNC in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline (desirable).
Experience working in a healthcare or similarly critical environment, with knowledge of water hygiene and environmental compliance (desirable).
