Prisoner Employment Support Coordinator

Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are looking for Prisoner Employment Support Coordinator. The job holder will provide administrative support for the pathways and assist in reducing reoffending by prisoners through the provision of opportunities from reception to release. If you are an experienced administrator with attention to detail, this could be a great opportunity for you.

HMP Northumberland offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture. This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site.

As a working prison, we work towards the resettlement of residents upon their release into the community and their integration into society through the skills acquired while in our care. We are committed to supporting people to change their lives for the better and lead law-abiding lives.

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

  • Helping prepare prisoners to take up Release On Temporary Licence work placements and/or prison leavers take up employment on release. This will include through delivering the Prisoner Banking Programme and ID programme; and supporting colleagues to match job vacancies with potential candidates. Duties will involve:
  •  Assessing the need of prisoners who require ID and/or a basic bank account and keeping records as per approved templates.
  • Supporting prisoners with applications via the Prisoner Banking Programme and ID programme. This includes following the relevant procedures, managing enquiries, and acting as the Single Point Of Contact for applicants and programme partners.
  • Seeking out prisoners prior to release to offer the services
  • Using approved templates to maintain financial records as necessary, collect relevant management information and report on these as required.
  • Supporting Prison Employment Leads in their capacity to identify and match candidates to job opportunities.

Package Description

£24,400  per annum

Post holders will be subjected to an advanced DBS check, a prison security check (level 2) prior to being employed.
