Prison Director
Job Introduction
Do you have extensive senior operational management experience within a prison environment including contract knowledge and contract management skills? HMP Forest Bank are currently recruiting for a Prison Director.
Within the role, you will be required to provide an operationally safe, decent and secure custodial environment which meets the needs of prisoners and promotes improved quality of life and opportunities to reduce re-offending. You will provide strategic and operational leadership for the prison, communicating the vision for the organisation through high levels of staff engagement and value based leadership. You must also deliver the business and contractual requirements of the prison, having responsibility for the financial performance and quality of services.
If you have proven experience of working as a Prison Governing Governor or Director within the public or private sector and have strong operational management skills we would love to hear from you.

Role Responsibility
- Set and maintain the strategic direction of the prison in the context of the wider organisation whilst accounting for regional and local variances and priorities.
- Develop and review the prison strategy, including delivery of an annual business plan setting targets for improvements in performance and efficiency in line with business requirements.
- Deliver the agreed performance and contractual targets on time and within budget.
- Ensure the identification, management and review of organisational risk (operational, financial, reputational and people) .
- Develop and sustain a culture that attracts, engages, motivates and retains high quality staff to foster a work environment where hard work, innovation and creativity are encouraged and valued. Ensure effective workforce and succession planning.

The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Senior operational experience in prisons, at Governing Governor or Prison Director level; previous prison incident command experience, risk management, security clearance to required level.
- Successful completion of incident and hostage management training, and adjudication training.
- Financial management experience, including responsibility for large budgets, and proven ability to deliver efficient and effective services..
- Proven leadership skills, including the development, communication and delivery of a clear vision.
- Strategic thinking, understanding policy and legal context, to make meaningful decisions in complex and challenging situations.
- Proven ability to develop mature, productive and meaningful relationships with internal and external service providers, key stakeholders and partners.
- Effective communicator, including the proven ability to negotiate and influence at a strategic level.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in politicised and pressured environment.
- Contract knowledge and contract management skills.
- Experience of being the public face of a large organisation and conducting public speeches and media presentations in a politically sensitive environment.
- Technical knowledge of relevant prison legislation, Prison Service Orders and instructions, Standards, inspection and audit processes; and knowledge of the wider criminal justice system.
Desirable
- Project Management skills.
- Formal contract management training
