We are looking for an experienced Team Leader with a strong pharmaceutical background to ensure the effective and compliant delivery of materials management services across the GSK R&D hub site at Stevenage. Reporting into the Scientific & Technical Services Manager, the successful candidate will manage a small team of experienced staff including all activities relating to a high-quality materials management service, safety and compliance issues, customer service and service improvement.
This is role offers an opportunity to grow the materials management services to the customer groups at Stevenage.
Role Responsibility
- To manage his/her team in the overall provision and delivery of a high-quality materials management service to support R&D-PDS Operations & other laboratory customer groups on the Stevenage site
- To identify and maintain suitable stock levels of general purpose reagents and solvents
- Raise purchase orders with suppliers and ensure timely delivery and adequate provision of appropriate documentation e.g., certificates of analysis
- Ensure timely delivery and return of materials
- Maintain the chemical and consumable inventories in a safe and compliant manner
- Reporting of raw material and solvent usage upon request
- To be responsible for managing the work, training, development and safety of all reporting staff dealing with operational and performance issues within the team; escalate to line manager as appropriate.
- To assist in the recruitment process of qualified personnel into the team and to carry out suitable induction and training programme.
- To work in conjunction with and provide support to the Scientific &Technical Services Manager with regards to writing and updating service level schedules (Task Lists) and in introducing new procedures, processes and best practice.
- To ensure safe operation of any equipment used
- To generate SOPs/work instructions/local method statements/risk assessments where necessary. Ascertain any relevant quality, skill or safety requirements.
- Ensure team compliance with all relevant working instructions, SOPs and safety instructions.
- To be responsible for maintaining a tidy and efficient working environment and for ensuring health, safety and compliance standards are met and maintained.
- To liaise with customers groups to discuss their requirements, agree protocols for new tasks, understand the practical and theoretical requirements of new activities and to ensure the competency of staff undertaking those tasks. Escalation to line manager as required.
- To ensure timely and accurate reporting of data including performance metrics
- To perform any other reasonable tasks as requested by the line manager
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified to at least ‘A’ level/HND standard in a scientific discipline with 3-5 years’ experience working in a scientific/materials management environment
- Supervisory experience essential
- Ability to understand customer technical requirements.
- Good customer focus.
- Be self motivated and able to motivate others.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Experience in writing technical procedures (SOPs, Work Instructions) and safety related documents (Risk Assessments).
- Ability to train new staff and to give guidance to team members.
- Computer literate
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Experience of using procurement systems
- Knowledge of OE tools & Techniques
