Your Role as a Librarian

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals within the criminal justice system? Do you have a high level of literacy skills and have a passion for reading? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Librarian at HMP Peterborough.

As a Librarian at HMP Peterborough you will be expected to provide prisoners with a range of reading and reference materials to help contribute towards their resettlements needs and support learning objectives. You will create a library space that is warm, inviting, and safe, which will foster an environment where prisoners are encouraged to read for Pleasure, Purpose, and Rehabilitation. This is both a challenging and rewarding role, where you directly impact the future of our prisoners, by equipping them with the tools they need to incorporate stability in their lives upon release.

As a working prison, we work towards the resettlement of residents upon their release into the community and their integration into society through the skills acquired while in our care. We are committed to supporting people to change their lives for the better and lead law-abiding lives. HMP Peterborough offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture.

The Ideal Candidate

Skills/Competencies:

• Library related qualification or equivalent experience working in a library setting.
• Interest in the rehabilitation of offenders.
• A flexible and responsive attitude.
• Willingness to innovate and demonstrate self-motivation.
• Be proactive, dynamic, and positive at all times.
