Laboratory Service Technician

Job Introduction

To provide first line laboratory support to B530/B510 ARD laboratory operations to include interactions with ARD management, Scientists and Global Workplace Solutions engineering / lab support teams.

Role Responsibility

  • Order lab supplies via Ariba which often involves searching for uncommon goods and working with Fisher contact. Maintain record of Fisher part numbers to corresponding specialty supplies such as numerous Protein Sample materials. On occasion, creating special POs and adding new vendors to the system. EHS Checks

 

  • Receive incoming samples and supplies and ensure that they are labelled with expiry dates, inform analyst and place in appropriate storage conditions (freezer, refrigerators, desiccators etc)
  • Work within the EAMS system to order and ensure lab stock of Stores items
  • Work closely with the Sodexo personnel who oversee the Stores and deliver goods to B530 and maintain dialogue with the Sodexo individual responsible for removing waste to make sure everything is labelled correctly and suitably contained

 

  • Monitor and process waste from work areas to designated holding area. This includes solvent waste containers beneath HPLC/UPLC machines in the open access lab 1.125.  Ensure that any waste placed in white pails etc is labelled properly. Dispose of special hazardous waste items such as Karl Fisher waste and ensure they have the correct orange labelling

 

  • Preparation of items for courier despatch to include the following:
  • Screening of non-Pfizer destinations
  • Completion of pro forma invoice non-EU counties and US
  • Packaging of the goods to conform with shipment SOP
  • Produce courier waybills (DHL/Fed Ex)
  • Arrange for shipment

 

  • Take possession of, package and ship samples and archives from Pfizer personnel via DHL website. Work with the import/export staff to ensure proper processing of shipments including hazardous goods
  • Monitor all cupboards, refrigerators and freezers for expired chemicals or improperly stored items
  • Working alongside the Safety team, arrange and put together a rota schedule for Lab inspections, including the manager led ones
  • Monitor all lab equipment for PAT compliance and enter PAT requests via Mirashare. Meet with electrician to guide him/her to relevant kit
  • Replenish solvent wash bottles within Lab areas
  • Ensure dirty glassware is in proper receptacles. Receive clean glassware and place in appropriate cupboards
  • Monitor glass waste bins and inform cleaning team if not picked up when 2/3 floors
  • Conduct weekly Legionella prevention flush on lab eyewash stations and document
  • Ensure stock of PPE (glasses, lab coats etc)
  • Undertake monthly kick stool checks
  • Monitor GC gas generators and top up water levels
  • Monitor GC gas cylinders and EAMS ticket for delivery and install accordingly
  • Work with GWS on lab equipment Repair and Maintenance
  • Decontaminate redundant equipment and arrange for GWS to remove from asset register and dispose of or auction

The Ideal Candidate

  • 2-3 years’ experience within a laboratory environment, preferable with a HNC or higher in a science discipline
  • GLP/GxP Training
  • Health and Safety awareness, lab awareness & COSHH awareness
  • GMP/lab awareness
  • Good IT skills to include all Microsoft packages
  • Ability to work on own
  • Customer focussed & team player
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate with all levels of the organisation
  • Excellent housekeeping standards

 

  • Minimal or no deviations from adherence to quality, GLP/GXP, safety and environmental standards is required
  • Demonstrates sound understanding and knowledge of practices/concepts ARD lab operations
  • Remain adaptable and maintain flexibility in completing daily tasks.
  • Demonstration of managing own time independently with little supervision and being accountable for results
  • Demonstration of responsibility and dependability.
  • No deviation from SOP’s
  • Full reporting of activities including discrepancies and deviations
  • All training (Pfizer P2L and Sodexo GREAT) to be recorded and kept up to date
  • PPE to be worn at all times in accordance with SSOW

 

  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and standard operating instructions during all operations, report all non-conformities.
  • Respond to emergencies
  • Follow management instruction, ensure manufacturing and housekeeping standards are met and assist colleagues when necessary.
