Assistant General Manager

Job Introduction

We have a fantastic opportunity for a General Manager to join our Heritage Portfolio Team based at The Scottish Portrait Museum in Edinburgh.

Our unique team run the catering and hospitality services across the cafe and some small event operations within the beautiful Scottish Portrait Gallery.

Our people not only look after our customers and clients, they are the heart and soul of our business. Renowned for being a cut above the rest, we would love for you to join the team!

You will lead the catering operations, delivering a food and beverage proposition which matches the venues ambition.

You will be responsible for our financial lines of the P&L to achieve budget and look to improve where possible.

We ideally want to hear from people in a similar role perhaps in the hotel or restaurant industry, you can be experienced in a general manager role or perhaps looking for the next step up in your career.

Role Responsibility

  • To be the figurehead for the Café operation and support the whole site, consistently exceeding the expectations of all customers and visitors
  • Create and maintain a safe, happy and committed working environment for the café team, with an emphasis on development for all staff
  • Create and maintain a working environment which meets all current legislative responsibilities
  • Manage key financial lines of the P&L to achieve budget, and look to improve budget where possible. This management will include all café expenditure as well as fixed and variable payroll
  • Provide innovation and new product ideas, and where practicable, use and promote local ingredients and suppliers.

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Natural creative and innovative flair with a genuine love of food and an eye for detail
  • Excellent man management skills, with a desire to share knowledge and best practises
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook
  • Industry awareness from high street to high end cafes, and be aware of competitors for benchmarking purposes
  • Professional, motivated, driven, flexible and enthusiastic
  • Ability to innovate solutions and prioritise workload
