English and ESOL Instructor - HMP Addiewell

Job Introduction

HMP Addiewell opened in 2008 and has become an integral part of the Scottish Prison Service estate earning much praise from (amongst others) HMCIP, for its innovation, use of technology, strong partnership working as well as its “can do” culture.

The Learning & Activities Department delivers a wide range of educational and vocational activities for the 700 prisoners and seeks to invest in a passionate, open-minded, patient, and innovative ESOL and functional skills trainer.

You would have the flexibility and autonomy to shape an engaging and inspiring curriculum within your classroom tailored around the needs of your learners.

With manageable class sizes of no more than 16 you can really focus on the student experience and the quality of learning.

Education is not split into terms like a traditional school and runs Monday to Friday 8 – 4:30 all year around allowing you the benefit of taking annual leave any time of the year. In addition to this, learner files must remain on site allowing for a better work life balance as there is no home marking.

For someone looking to progress further within their teaching career we can offer the resources and support to gain additional qualifications.

To be successful in this role you will;

Have experience of teaching or training across subjects such as English/Communications with an understanding of ESOL
Have experience in planning lessons
Have experience of supporting challenging individuals
