Your Role as a Careers Advisor

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals within the criminal justice system? Do you have a flexible and responsive attitude with some experience in an education environment? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Careers Advisor at HMP Peterborough.

As a Careers Advisor at HMP Peterborough, you will provide on-going careers advice, information, and guidance for all prisoners. You will be expected to manage each prisoners Personal Learning Plan, whilst collaborating with teaching staff and the neurodiversity team to encourage excellent attendance in education and, work and skill training. Some of our prisoners come to us with undiagnosed learning difficulties and neurodivergence and often have lost their confidence in education - we need someone who will ensure that every prisoner when its time leaves empowered with the ability and desire to learn more. 

As a working prison, we work towards the resettlement of residents upon their release into the community and their integration into society through the skills acquired while in our care. We are committed to supporting people to change their lives for the better and lead law-abiding lives. HMP Peterborough offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture.

This is both a challenging and rewarding role, where you directly impact the future of our prisoners, by equipping them with the tools they need to incorporate stability in their lives upon release.

The Ideal Candidate

Skills/Competencies:

• Experience or qualification in Information, Advice & Guidance.
• Interest in the rehabilitation of offenders.
• A flexible and responsive attitude.
• Willingness to innovate and demonstrate self-motivation.
• Be proactive, dynamic, and positive at all times.
