Anglican Chaplain - HMP Bronzefield

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen at HMP/YOI Bronzefield for an Anglican Chaplain to join our team!
 
 As Anglican Chaplain, you will provide pastoral needs for prisoners whatever their religion. You'll maintain and develop links with visiting Ministers from other faiths and with faith communities to develop support for reintegration, providing support when appropriate for prisoners and staff.


Applicants must be either ordained or a Licensed Lay Minister (Reader) in the Church of England and will have responsibility for delivering faith services and supporting the spiritual care of all Anglican prisoners. The role will involve leading a mid-week group/service and leading Sunday services; usually one a month plus additional cover as required. 


HMP/YOI Bronzefield is a closed local prison serving courts across the South of England. Our mission is to deliver quality of life services which make a meaningful difference to women in the criminal justice system by supporting them to change their lives for the better. To achieve this we focus on providing needs-based services and programmes to rehabilitate and improve the well-being of our women.

 

We house up to 572 women (approximately 14.5% of the national female prison population). The women in our custody have a diverse and complex set of needs and range from mothers and babies, young offenders, life and long term sentenced women, short to mid-term sentenced women, foreign nationals and women on remand.

Main Responsibilities

  • Serve the needs of prisoners and staff by supporting religious faith and practice within the prison and pastoral care for all. 
  • Work together to create an ordered and caring community where individuals can discover and practice their religion and develop and strengthen appropriate links with their family and faith communities. 
  • Support prisoners of all faiths through facilitating religious prayers and teachings of Faiths representative of the prisoner population. 
  • To participate in the Equality and Inclusion Management Team meetings. 
  • To take on when necessary and appropriate generic chaplaincy duties including applications, new receptions and discharges, and visiting prisoners in Separation and Care and Healthcare
  • Represent the prison and company to the local community.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of working in a similar role 
  • To have the necessary recognition from lead faith authorities. 
  • Great ability to work with the people of different ethnicities 
  • Ability and wish to work with clergy and volunteers of different faith backgrounds 
  • High level of interpersonal skills including assertiveness and self-motivation 
  • The ability to challenge inappropriate behaviour 
  • Be competent in record keeping and completing all necessary paperwork pertinent to the role
  • Must be a team player; collaborative, comfortable and skilled with working in a highly diverse team

 

Package Description

Total annual pay: £35,280.24 (annual salary of £31,551.00 plus a monthly London weighting payment of £310.77)
