Laboratory Operations Manager

Job Introduction

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Manager to work for a global research based pharmaceutical company. The laboratory service function provides support to the core of the business, assisting in the running of laboratories within 3 key areas: waste management, housekeeping and consumables management and delivering a comprehensive service solution. 

Role Responsibility

  • Manage the laboratory operation and services to the agreed specification and to the agreed performance, qualitative and financial targets.
  • Promote and develop an Operational Excellence Culture which secures effective implementation of Lean initiatives.
  • Undertake Lean activities using the DMAIC framework. Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support the business goals in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Build, develop and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Manage the team to ensure performance against the agreed service level and ensure cost effective decisions are made.
  • Accountable for on-site budget management
  • To continuously keep up to date with all product knowledge and innovation
  • Assist in the development and completion of standard operating procedures and work instructions
  • Complete audits/performance checks and handle any issues/complaints
  • Support training and development of the laboratory services team
  • Maintain and improve client and business knowledge 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Business acumen and knowledge of external industry developments
  • Experience in leading and managing a team
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent relationship management abilities at all levels
  • Experience working in a standards/compliance environment
  • Technical knowledge in biology, chemistry, electronics, equipment maintenance or IT 
  • Sound scientific Knowledge with a reasonable knowledge of scientific instrument types.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt with proven experience of running lean projects.
  • Experience of delivering Operational excellence within a customer facing environment.
  • Knowledge or experience of working in a controlled environment, for example manufacturing or pharmaceutical
  • Demonstrable laboratory orientation skills
