Head of Learning and Development

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity to help lead and shape the L&D strategy for the UK & Ireland business.  As an integral member of the Organisation Development team, you will design, develop and implement the Sodexo UK & Ireland Learning & Development agenda.  You will lead and develop the Learning and Development team, to ensure that the L&D delivery model meets the needs of the business to ensure continued business growth and success.   

Role Responsibility

  • Review, develop and deliver a successful central training programme that supports the needs of the business in order for Sodexo to achieve their goals
  • Implementation and delivery of learning and development processes to ensure a full scale learning service to the business
  • Responsible for innovation in learning design and the development of a range of delivery methods to meet the needs of the business, including the ongoing development of e-learning
  • Designing and delivering processes for managing training deliver; governance and quality assurance, SLA’s on learning delivery and evaluation etc…
  • Designing and managing truly business-sensitive training needs analysis process, both business wide and for segment/functional initiatives where necessary
  • Relationship Management of the operating HR Directors, working to proactively develop the Learning & Development  agenda around real business needs, as well as ensuring key stakeholders in HR and the business are kept abreast of the plans and progress of the L&D team and the delivery of all relevant L&D interventions, including KPI reporting and updates on change initiatives
  • Providing excellent coaching, performance management and development of the team of L&D business partners to ensure their continued performance, engagement and development
  • Effective management of relationships with external bodies, including industry bodies, government training bodies and training organisations
  • Building a culture of high performance in the Learning and Development function, ensuring that professional capability is maintained and developed
  • Provide ongoing review of ROI with plans to ensure continuous improvement of the function
  • Work with the broader HR teams to ensure delivery of all relevant projects including performance, major bids etc…
  • Effectively manage the L&D budget to ensure best use of funds available
  • Effective management and development of L&D outsourcing contracts and partnership requirements to include apprenticeship programmes
  • Be the relevant point of contact internationally to give support and focus to key global learning and development projects ensuring that best practice is shared and implemented, where relevant, in the UK & Ireland business 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Of graduate calibre with relevant L&D qualifications (ideally CIPD)
  • Demonstrable people leadership capability – if not proven through the management of teams then evidenced through the ability to influence, consult, coach and drive performance and improvement through others
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and project management skills – must be able to set an agenda, contract on support from the team and other sources and demonstrate progress and delivery
  • Experience of working in a fast paced changing environment
  • Demonstrable experience of working within an IIP framework
  • Exceptional knowledge of best practice in learning and development
  • Gravitas to influence across all levels of the business
  • A strong operational learning and development background with evidence of having operated at a senior level

Desirable

  • Proven skills and knowledge in process improvement
  • Experience of working within a matrix structure
  • Has effectively worked on L&D projects internationally
