Job Introduction

We are currently seeking a highly talented and driven person to work in the one of our Waterford sites.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational skills, the ability to prioritise their workload and have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

You will be working as part of a team but you will at times be expected to work independently and under your own initiative.

Role Responsibility

1. Ensure the creation of the right framework and tools that will assist and develop the operational line management teams to manage a safe working environment for the wellbeing of clients, service users, visitors and employees.
2. Review and implement the policies and procedures for Health and Safety for contracts and liaise with operations teams to ensure that appropriate monitoring is in place so that all personnel understand and are adequately trained to carry out their individual responsibilities in relation to health and safety at work.
3. Provide competent advice in relation to health & safety issues across all service lines – cleaning; catering; technical services; front of house etc
4. Promote and develop a Safety Culture which secures effective implementation of policy, procedures and responsibilities throughout the Sodexo operational delivery
5. Work closely with the CS segment team and represent Sodexo in dealing with local authorities, providing the procedural framework, intervening, strategically developing performance by giving advice and managing risk by measuring the potential exposures and trends where appropriate
6. Develop relevant training plans to the ensure employees are competent to deliver services from a health & safety perspective.
7. Undertake environmental, health and safety planning, including the setting of goals, agreeing priorities and establishing adequate systems for performance management.
8. Contribute to the delivery of the Sodexo Health, Safety & Risk strategy and delivery
9. Formulate, implement, monitor and support, review of health and safety policy and manage action plans following Red audits and RIDDOR accidents / incidents to ensure the contract complies with best practice and legislative requirements
10. Manage the arrangements for incident, accident and statutory inspections and enquiries, agreeing and implementing necessary changes
11. Produce monthly health & safety update including accident statistics and present findings to Sodexo management
12. Ensure that systems for identifying and recording health and safety training (including induction) operate properly
13. Monitor the production and review of risk assessments that are in sufficient detail and proportionate to the risk
14. Monitor that safe working practices based on risk assessment are adopted
15. Monitor whether suitable protective clothing and equipment is available and used appropriately
16. Undertake regular health and safety inspections and audits of program units (with their safety representatives as necessary) and report findings
17. Ensure that accidents and near misses are reported and investigated to legislative prescribed standards
18. Instruct, manage and monitor health and safety related contractors and consultants as appropriate
19. Maintain relevant health & safety records and the preparation of risk registers.
20. Ensure systems are embedded to support all ISO certification requirement
21. Lead on the development of strategic risk registers and business continuity plans
22. Provide and interpret appropriate, timely and useful management information to line management
23. Promote and maintain appropriate relationships with statutory authorities, also Safegard and Corporate Services Health & Safety Manager
24. Refer to the appropriate authority any health and safety problems which cannot be resolved in a timescale appropriate to the risk

The Ideal Candidate

1. Improve staffs understanding of the SEMS
2. Improved standard of hazard analysis and risk assessment onsite
3. Continuous improvement in the management and reduction of lost time incidents and accident rates
4. Improve on the current closure rate of near misses onsite.
5. Work towards zero harm target by reducing the number of accidents onsite
6. Ensure all staff onsite to raise 7 near misses per year
7. Continuous improvement in the management and Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) of less than 0.45 by end of FY16
8. Complete daily and weekly H&S walks
9. Continuous improvement in the management of audit  results
