Yard Marshal
Job Introduction
- To assist in the day-to-day operation of the Warehouse ensuring all aspects of the yard operation are conducted safely and in a timely manner.
- Basic tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Taking reasonable care of both your own health & safety and that of others, ensuring all company safety & quality systems are followed at all times and report any incidents or suggestions to your line manager.
- Ensuring all relevant procedures are adhered to
- To work as part of the larger warehouse team to provide faultless customer service, excellent general housekeeping and a collaborative team environment.
- Controlling entry and exit to the yard and Main Warehouse
- Control of all vehicle movements within the yard environment
- Loading & unloading of all vehicles using MHE
- Checking of consignments
- Recording all deliveries
- Supporting loading/unloading at other storage facilities
- Performing housekeeping duties including sanitising, sweeping & cleaning of storage areas.
Role Responsibility
- Operate the specialist handling equipment that is used within the warehouse including; Counterbalance, Aisle-master, Reach Truck & Rough Terrain Forklifts.
- Unloading of delivery vehicles, including chemicals at the chemicals storage yard and oils & lubricants at their respective storage area.
- Ensure that all areas are maintained to an excellent standard of housekeeping, making sure all items are labeled and stored in a clean and tidy condition.
- Ensuring all items received in the Warehouse are accounted for and signed out by the collecting party.
- Ensuring the yard & surrounding areas are maintained to a high level of housekeeping
- Completing daily inspections on the vehicle fleet

Job Purpose
As a Yard Marshall/banksman, you will be responsible for safely directing the movement of vehicles on the FMC service yard. You could also be providing vital recommendations on movement and ensuring this is relayed in a clear manner to all on site.
Person Specification
- Directing the movement of vehicles on a hospital site
- Recommending and laying out safe, on-site traffic systems e.g cones
- Providing clear, correct, and safe directions to deliver drivers
- Communicating with drivers verbally when entering and leaving the FMC yard.
- Communicating with Sodexo and Trust staff who use the yard throughout the day
- Understanding risks (e.g. blind spots) and how to manage these effectively
- Managing traffic to avoid excessive queuing
- Minimising possible risks to personnel and equipment
- Be thorough and pay attention to detail
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Able to accept criticism and work well under pressure
- Able to work well with others
- Physical skills like movement, coordination, dexterity and grace
- Knowledge of public safety and security
- Keep FMC yard clear of any derbies and good house keeping of the area
- Ensure empty cages/ Linen cages are stored in the correct location free from any obstacle
- Ensure all wooden pallets are stored and stacked correctly and free from any obstacle
- Ensure the medical gases are are free from any obstacle and the walkway is always free of debris

PERSON SPECIFICATION TEMPLATE
Potential candidates are advised that due both to the nature of the site and the work the post will involve considerable manual work and walking and driving considerable distances. The majority of the work will be outdoors throughout the year.
