Job Introduction

Role Responsibility

  • Collect general, plastic, cardboard waste bins and bales from across site daily
  • Collect other waste from site and deliver to recycling area
  • Arrange waste removal off site with nominated supplier
  • Ensure waste is correctly baled, compacted or packaged as required
  • Correctly store waste in line with regulatory guidelines
  • Ensure all required documents are completed and filed for each collection / delivery
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is filed and retained as required
  • Ensure all equipment is kept in a safe working order
  • Segregate and store all waste into its correct storage container
  • Ensure all work areas are maintained in a clean and tidy manner

 

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Fork Lift Truck Licence
  • Organizational skills
  • Good IT Skills
  • Ability to comply with service requirements in line with client and company policies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Package Description

Sodexo are currently recruiting for a Waste Operative. You will assist with all aspects of waste management within the company site as well as assisting the team in maintaining the Estates asset base. Accountabilities:

  • Be willing to be trained in all aspects of the waste co-ordination activities/ responsibilities and any required waste, safety and environmental legislative training courses.
  • To support /oversee where required, all waste operations on site, satellite sites and within the waste compound at P03
  • Carry out duties as directed by the Estates Officer or Contract Supervisor
  • Carry out planned and reactive tasks relating to the collection /disposal and management of waste on site.
  • Organising the exchange / collection of sub- contracted services – Skips, REL’s, FEL’s, Waste safes, WEEE bins, RoRo’s, Lamp coffin, FHU’s etc
  • Oversee waste drop offs by MOD / Sodexo / Contractors etc. including monitoring and recording of waste transfers. Challenge the receipt of waste into compound as required, if not within scope. Assist and support the enforcement of all local operating procedures for work and access in and around waste compound including carrying out banks man duties for deliveries /collections and exchanges.
  • Assist and support the enforcement of Waste legislation and Health & Safety compliance within limits of role.
  • Carry out jetting of various locations in accordance with schedules   –  Hardstandings, Drainage channels etc. as instructed.
  • Assist and support the control of the COSHH cabinet and PPE in terms of inspection and compliance. Assist with the completion of associated COSHH assessments and risk assessments.
  • To ensure the effective and scheduled, cleaning / waste collections are carried out from allocated areas, namely; waste compounds, bin areas including dog waste bins and within buildings as may be deemed necessary, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • To ensure all scheduled and ad hoc secondary waste collections are carried out as required by the contract namely :  Ground and post mounted litter bins, Smoking bins, Dog waste bins.
  • To assist and support the Estates team in response to ad-hoc reactive waste Service requests on “Cobra” asset     management system in accordance with contract to minimise financial deductions.
  • To ensure that hazardous waste within on-site waste safes is maximised and their capacity monitored to ensure available capacity at all times.
  • To monitor levels of waste coolant to all locations on site and ensure capacity at all times.
  • To monitor levels of all waste streams and take action to ensure capacity e.g. call off /exchange s etc. with the waste broker.
  • To identify potential safety hazards, reporting to the line manager as necessary.
  • To ensure that stores are kept clean and tidy and equipment stored safely at all times.
  • To comply with all relevant COSHH requirements in the use and storage of chemical products.
  • To support the effective resolution of complaints that arise and the escalation to the line manager where necessary.
  • To collect and stream recyclable materials from site, including emptying of bins into general waste compactors and baling of cardboard, plastic etc.
  • To dispose of waste into correct receptacles, i.e. hazardous bins, recycling bins, general rubbish bins, confidential bins, compostable bins.
  • To swap out FHU’s where required within buildings to give capacity.
  • To carry out minor maintenance and reactive repairs to Sodexo owned bins / containers, ensuring they are clean, fit for use, robust and labelled correctly.
  • Carry out minor maintenance and reactive repairs to waste compounds including supporting estates operatives in maintenance /reactive repairs to estates assets.
  • To carry out all reasonable requests

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential

 

 

  • Minimum GCSE level education.
  • Willing to undertake the Sodexo Waste Management Development Programme WMDP or CIWM training and    to be trained in any skill gaps with a positive approach to learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an effective ability to communicate and interact with customers, clients and  colleagues e.g.
  • MoD personnel, Sodexo staff, Contractors, External organisations e.g. Auditors etc.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with a strong ability to prioritise and balance tasks under pressure.
  • The ability to support the Estates Engineers in planned and reactive building and general maintenance of estates assets.
  • Possess a hands on building related  skillset to assist in the above.
  • Must hold full driving license with at least 2 years driving experience.

Desirable:

  • Forklift driving license and banksman duties - however training can be provided if this is not held.
  • Road sweeper license.
  • Manual Handling.
  • Sodexo Managing Safely Training.
