Waste Manager

Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced Waste Manager to join Sodexo team in our Healthcare arm of the business. You would be providing a central management support to Health and Safety, waste, and environmental management matters and to perform delegated duties specified by the Management. Working as part of an integrated team linking with Safety team members, contract management, service managers, and unit staff teams, and other client support services.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Provide direct operational support to the onsite teams, to deliver the Sodexo H&S, Waste and Environmental targets linked to the UK and segment strategy plans.
  • To ensure the effective management of Waste in line with the contract deliverables and maintain the exemplar service & innovate.
  • Ensure consistent application and communication of Sodexo H&S and Env policies, procedures, practices and initiatives, with particular regard to Healthcare contractual requirements, while referring to site senior management.
  • To manage waste in line with HTM-07-01 and all Waste Management legislation
  • Provide a high level of operational service support to management and operational staff, establishing specific requirements, identifying and facilitating the resolution of all specific issues to provide a high level of support and add value to operations.
  • Maintain and manage waste Business continuity plan
  • Carry out all Waste related tasks to ensure service provision and compliance
  • To motivate and train colleagues and the relevant client/ trust staff in Waste management
  • Promote Waste reduction and provide advice and support for the development of waste reduction initiatives
  • Undertake waste audits (upstream & duty of care) for all waste streams
  • Adopt a continuous improvement approach, keeping up to date with changes in policy, procedure and legislation, and revisiting key policies regularly to ensure that Sodexo Healthcare are compliant at all times.
  • Ensure waste is suitable for carriage in conjunction with DGSA
  • Assist in the Commercial management of the Waste Management Service
  • Carry out sub-contractor meetings
  • Plan, monitor and achieve contract / environmental targets
  • Provide regular and ad hoc management reports on all aspects of Environmental and Waste Management
  • Ensure invoices are validated and credits received where appropriate
  • Represent the HSEQ function on committees, support groups, and work groups.
  • Work with the Head of Safety and operational management teams to identify opportunities and risks, and jointly manage these to optimise service delivery.
  • Work with the Head of Safety and operational management teams to compile plans, strategy, systems, and procedures to accurately report, review and monitor service delivery.

Knowledge / Experience:

  • Waste and environmental management including Healthcare Waste management (HTM07-01)
  • Understand contract deliverables
  • Competency in benchmark techniques, baseline calculations and statistical analysis
  • Project management knowledge

 

Qualifications:

  • Environmental/ Waste related qualification to Degree Level or equivalent is not essential but preferred
  • Relevant membership of IEMA / CIWM

Skills:

  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Communicate progress appropriately
  • Must be able to juggle demands from different groups and business
  • Must to able to work remotely / business travel (approx. 50%.)
  • Preparation of high-level reports and presentations
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage expectations

Competencies:

  • A strong team player, who is also able to work alone, deliver targets and work with key stakeholders
  • Confident in dealing with senior management and customers and suppliers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Highly organised
