Telephonist / Switchboard Operator

Job Introduction

Sodexo here at Stoke Mandeville hospital manage and provide service on behalf of the NHS Trust. This position is for our busy growing Switchboard. This positions are 37.30 hours a week with a holiday entitlement of 20 days to start (Not including public holidays) working five days over seven.

We provide full training and support during your probation period and continued support throughout your employment. Sodexo are also very active in investing in people and are keen to support and acknowledge rising starts, where they can offer a variety of training to help their employees grown and progress throughout the company.

Role Responsibility

Responsibilities:

•             Operate communication systems, such as telephone, switchboard, intercom, two-way radio, or bleep systems.

•             Answer incoming calls both internal and external, greeting callers, providing information, transferring calls and/or taking messages as necessary.

•             Route emergency calls appropriately.

•             Page individuals to inform them of telephone calls, using paging and interoffice communication equipment.

•             Relay and route written and verbal messages.

•             Monitor alarm systems in order to ensure that secure conditions are maintained.

 

The Ideal Candidate

We are a highly enthusiastic and motivate team, here to support and handle all calls for Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe Hospital and Amersham hospital internally and externally 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

 We are looking for a telephonist / switchboard operator who is outgoing, motivated and hardworking individual to come and join our friendly, helpful switchboard team.  You’ll play a key role in the smooth day to day running of our switchboard. As a switchboard operator, it is important to be clear, positive and compassionate with all communication skills and to understand the type of calls that are handled by our team.

As a hospital we have a duty of care to all and have a strict confidential and data protection policy that must be adhered to at all times.

 

Candidate key skill requirements:

•             Outlook training

•             Microsoft office

•             Some experience with call handling or telephony

•             Experience with a variety of different systems relevant to this role

•             Great communication skills

•             Good practices of spoken and written English

•             Previous experience with in healthcare industry (Not vital )

 

Key training will be given in the first eight weeks on:

•             Switchboard system

•             General Bleep System

•             Wycombe Bleep System

•             Critical emergency calls and emergency bleep system

•             All alarm systems including gas, panic and fire alarms.

•             Major incident calls.

•             Clinical rota’s
